Carl Auböck, Ahorner House, Hanselmayergasse 10-12, Vienna XIII

These are probably the last photos of Ahorner House, designed by the famous Austrian architect and designer Carl Auböck (1924 - 1993). This building is certainly not his best work, but it's still one of the few examples of Auböcks philosophy: He brought "the easy living" style of the American 1950s to Austria (Marion Kuzmany in: Carl Auböck Architekt (1924-1993) - Design for Modern Living).

The Ahorner House has the typical formal elements of Auböcks architecture: A closed facade to the street and a spacious, wide open facade facing the garden - the view over the city of Vienna is
breathtaking.

In any case, the word is that this house will be demolished soon to make room for three upscale apartment houses. Good or bad, judge yourself.
Good bye Ahorner House!
